6315.0. "phase5-events yes, notifications no" by MUNICH::SCHWEMMER () Mon May 29 1995 21:12
With DECmcc V1.4 I'm not able to get Phase5-Events into
MCC by using the MCC_EVL_SINK-application.
(MCC-Station with VMS V6.1, DECnet/OSI V6.1,
LOCAL naming option, Events are coming from a DECnis).
In my opinion, I've setup everything which is necessary.
1) MCC> enable mcc 0 dna5_am sink
1st problem: session control application MCC_EVL_SINK was
missing,
therefore I had to start MCC_COMMON:MCC_DNA5_EVL.COM.
2) I've created an outbound stream on the DECnis, which points to
the MCC-system:
NCL> create event dispatcher outbound stream nacdm4-to-nacws2
NCL>set event dispatcher outbound stream nacdm4-to-nacws2 -
_NCL>sink address = {([%x0152], -
_NCL>[DNA_SessionControlV3 name = "MCC_EVL_SINK"], -
_NCL>[DNA_NSP], -
_NCL>[DNA_OSInetwork, 49::00-31:AA-00-04-00-71-C6:20])}
(pls. find enclosed the output of this outbound stream).
3) notification request for 'node * any config event' and
'node * any event' or fcl-cmd. 'getevent node * any event'
didn't work.
(I've tried Event: ID Reachability Change from:
Node 0:.nacdm4 Routing Circuit L602-3-1 for an adjacent node).
Because for the 1st test the event wasn't seen with $reply/ena=net
I've created a second outbound stream on the decnis, which
connects to number=82-object of the mcc-station.
Then the events were coming.
4) getevent node * event disp any event
completed successfully after giving the test-event-directive in a second
session:
MCC> test node .pv.nacdm4 event disp, by user "xxx", by password "xxx"
That means, that the events from the decnis are really arriving,
but why aren't other events seen from MCC?
I've read an article about "Setting up DECnet/OSI Event logging for DECmcc"
where all the above mentioned steps are documented.
But the article mentions a problem about case-sensitivity of
registered object-names.
Could this be a problem here?
<<<"
8) If you are using the local naming option then the test event directive
will work. However, notifications won't because there is a case sensitivity
problem. Whereby, DECmcc registers entites in lowercase but the events are
generated in uppercase. This problem is present in DECmcc V1.2.3 and
Polycenter Manager V1.3 (DECmcc V1.3).
Engineering are aware of the problem and this will be fixed in a future
patched release. <<<"
Does this problem still exist in MCC 1.4?
Any help would be much appreciated,
Mathilde Schwemmer,
MCS Munich.

6315.2 | That runs on my system ! | DSVB03::TABONE | | Thu Jun 01 1995 16:21 | 60 |
| Hi Mathilde,
First, to see if you have the case sensitivity problem, you can do the
following test :
getevent node decnisname event disp any event
as with the star that works correctly.
Second, I receive correctly different kinds of events from a DECnis with
MCC V1.4 running on a VMS node 5. I have no MCC_EVL_SINK but MCC_DNA5_EVL
process. So I think there is no MCC problem about that !

Philippe

6315.3 | how to assign target? | MUNICH::SCHWEMMER | | Fri Jun 09 1995 18:52 | 48 |
| Hello Philippe,
thanks for your answer, but there are a few things which are
not clear to me.
1) your recommended test
"getevent node decnisname event disp any event"
didn't work when I specify the decnisname.
it works when I specify an asterisk (*) as node-entity.
Does this mean, I have the case sensitivity problem?
2) what do you mean by:
"I have no MCC_EVL_SINK but MCC_DNA5_EVL process. So I think there is
no MCC problem about that !"
Do you mean you don't have any session control application
for mcc_evl_sink?
how did you enable the mcc_evl_sink-process?
by enable-cmd in mcc or by starting the command-procedure
mcc_common:mcc_dna5_evl.com?
3) your recommended decnis-cmd is working.
for me I made the mistake to specify %x0152 instead
of %x0113, because there's a bug in specifying DNA_CMIP-MICE
at ncl-prompt.
now the notifications are working when I generate an event
directly at the decnis (e.g. disabling x25 protocol dte anydte).
now I have to test what happens when an adjacent node is going
down.
Do you have an example for me how to assign targets
for phase5-nodes?
Thanks for your help and regards,
Mathilde.

Sorry for the delay, but I was off the last week.

I think so ! Is your decnis name in uppercases? If yes, it is that problem.

The MCC enable command is ok :
MCC> enable mcc 0 dna5_am sink

I think you can retarget the events you want from your adjacent node to the decnis
using the target command :
For example :
ASSIGN TARGET domain domainname -
EVENT SOURCE = node decnisname Routing Circuit circuitname, -
EVENT NAME = "eventname", -
TARGET ENTITY = Node nodename
[TARGET SEVERITY = newseverity]
Hope this help you.

Philippe

6315.5 | GETEVENT is not the same as SHOW. | KETJE::PACCO | Horum omnium fortissimi sunt Belgae | Tue Jun 20 1995 15:00 | 12 |
| When you use the GETEVENT, you cannot use any identifier you want.
In case of NODE events, you have to use the DNS-FULL-NAME.
Specially for the DECnis router, first do
ncl sho node xxx Name
and use that name in the GETEVENT !
or do a
ncl rename node xxx new name = DNS-FULL-NAME
Comment of a user.

"MCC> enable mcc 0 dna5_am sink
1st problem: session control application MCC_EVL_SINK was
missing,"
I had the same problem and found out that the process doing the
ENABLE MCC 0 DNA5_AM SINK
must have TMPMBX,NETMBX,SYSNAM,DETACH as DEFAULT! privileges in
Authorize. Otherwise it won't work.
The process MCC_DNA5_EVL will be created, but no session control
application!
