6285.0. "multiple mcc_iconic_maps and old events" by COMICS::PRICEC (I had a life, then I joined the CSC) Tue May 02 1995 18:59

I have an obscure problem, and I suspect that it's been fixed some time
ago as I saw something similar as a customer and have only been
"inside" for a year, and couldn't find any reference to it in notes.

I found that on a VMS system if I was firing an iconic map to a remote
X display station, and the link was lost for some reason, the iconic
map process running locally (on a batch queue) would not shutdown.

I think I reported it as a customer, but left before a resolution was
    offered.

I now have an Ultrix 4.3a machine displaying to it's own local graphic
display, and some mornings the users arrive and the mcc windows have
disappeared, but the mcc_iconic_map process is still running, along
with all the other modules it called in. They fire up another iconic
map, which starts displaying, then they have multiple mcc presentatin,
and access modules running on the system.

The bizarre thing is that sometime events seem to get "trapped" in an
early iconic_map , and the event seems to float to the surface of the
current displaying iconic map, with a timestamp that is several weeks
    old.

This machine is not rebooted often, hence the old processes.

I understand that if there are multiple PMs under the same UID , they
will all receive an event if the appropriate notification is enabled,
but has anyone else come across the iconic map dying overnight, or
events being "held down" for weeks at a time ??????

My customer has now clarified, that the iconic window doesn't dye
overnight, they shut down the entire session, so the X window manager
disappears, so they are just left with the old iconic map processes,
    which I know hang around.

I've explained the mcc kill option , which they shall incorporate into
    a script before restarting mcc_iconic_map
