Hi, my network consits of DECnet/OSI (v5.8) nodes. I'm using DNS with one namespace. One of the DNS servers with master replicas is located on my VAXstation. I have a problems with installing DECmcc V1.4 on this VAXstation when I'm going to use DNS option in DECmcc installation. After running mcc_dns_setup.com procedure the execution failed with the following message: DNS$CONTROL program does not exist on this system. To execute this function, make sure that following files exist: SYS$SYSTEM:DNS$CONTROL.EXE - DNS control program SYS$SYSTEM:DNS$CONTROL.BIN - DNS management command parse tabl SYS$SHARE:DNS$LIB.EXE - DNS shareable library If you do not have access to these files, please run this command procedure on a system which has DNS Server running. Please re-enter the function number (0 or 2) The same errors appeared after starting IP Autoconfiguration (the same as in note 4693). As I know files SYS$SYSTEM:DNS$CONTROL.BIN,SYS$SHARE:DNS$LIB.EXE are really missing, because I'm using DNS V2.0 comming with DECnet/OSI. After checking the mcc_dns_setup.com script file I saw, that in script there are commands which check the existence of these files. I've comment out these commands and the procedure went on with some errors concerning to setting access rights for DNS directories (couln't set access rights). My question is: 1. is it a "normal "behaviour" of mcc_dns_setup.com procedure ? 2. is my solution correct or is there another way to solve this problem ? Thanks in advance Jan

| 6279.1 | Create dummy files may be make the check ok | AZUR::DURIF | Fri Apr 21 1995 16:32 | 14 | |
Hi, The problem you mention is real. At this time we have no fix for that. I may suggest a crazy idea to create dummy files using a text editor to make the check ok. I know this is a short term solution. Hope this helps, Benoit
| 6279.2 | Any official support for DNS V2.0 ? | COL01::LOPEZ | Arturo Lopez drinks Klsch at Cologne | Thu May 04 1995 14:48 | 12 |
does mcc V1.4 support DNS V2.0 ?
I have MCC v1.4 and VAX DNS V1.1. It seems to work fine. No problems at
the moment, but VAX DNS V1.1 sometimes dies. I'm looking forward to usr
DNS V2.0.
Is this supported ?

| 6279.3 | DNS V2.0 is supported | AZUR::DURIF | Fri May 05 1995 14:22 | 9 | |
Hi Arturo, I my understanding DNS V2.0 comes with DECnet/OSI 6.1. DECmcc V1.4 supports this configuration. If i remember well is is stated in the SPD. Please let me know if it is not. Benoit
| 6279.4 | YES ?, but ... | BRADEC::BOJTOS | Jan Bojtos | Fri May 05 1995 22:51 | 18 |
Hi,
It looks like YES (DNS V2.0 is "supported"),
a) IF I create dummy files according to .1
b) IF I ignore error messages during mcc_dns_setup.com execution
concerning adding access rights for namespace directories.The commands
created by mcc_dns_setup.com are not commands for DNS V2.0 (it looks
like DNS V1.1 commands, I don't know DNS V1.1.)
I've installed DECmccV1.4 in VMS V6.1 and DECnet/OSi V5.8 environment. I
must say I didn't try it under DECnet/OSI V6.1, but I think DNS version
should be the same for both DECnet/OSI versions.
If I'm wrong , please let me know.
Rgds

Hi Jan, >> a) IF I create dummy files according to .1 >> b) IF I ignore error messages during mcc_dns_setup.com execution You are right for the "IF". We have to plan a fix for a future MCC version. Regards, Benoit
