6277.0. "Please help - nmfoperationalState of Circuit" by BEJVC::LKLEE () Fri Apr 21 1995 14:11

	DECmcc V1.3 VMS 5.5-2

	I set up two circuits ( hgprc2-hgprc1, hgprc2-hgprc3) as the
	following diagram :

		Phase IV                                Phase V
              +----------+                           +----------+
	      |	hgprc2:: |---------------------------| hgprc1:: |
              +----------+      hgprc2-hgprc1        +----------+
                    |
                    |
                    | hgprc2-hgprc3
                    |
              +----------+
              | hgprc3:: |
              +----------+
	        Phase IV (DECmcc is running on this node )

	Both hgprc2:: and hgprc3:: are DECnet IV nodes, hgprc1:: is a
	DECnet/OSI node. All these nodes are on the same ethernet.

	The status of the circuit are as following :

    	-----------------------------------------------
	case 1 : All three nodes are up and running.

	hgprc2-hgprc1  nmfoperationalState = active
	(PhaseIV - PhaseV)

	hgprc2-hgprc3  nmfoperationalState = enable
	(phaseIV - PhaseIV)

	------------------------------------------------
	case 2 : hgprc2 and hgprc3 are up and running, hgprc1 is down.

	hgprc2-hgprc1  nmfoperationalState = enable
	(PhaseIV - PhaseV)

	hgprc2-hgprc3  nmfoperationalState = enable
	(phaseIV - PhaseIV)

    	--------------------------------------------------
	case 3 : hgprc3 is up and running, both hgprc2 and hgprc1 are down

	hgprc2-hgprc1 a message says can not communicate with
	(PhaseIV - PhaseV) target system.

	hgprc2-hgprc3  nmfoperationalState = enable
	(phaseIV - PhaseIV)

    	--------------------------------------------------

	my questions are :

	for case 1

	Is the nmfoperationalState of hgprc2-hgprc3 normal ? Why it is not
	"active" ?

 	-----------------------------------------------
	for case 2

	Is that true that only one end of the circuit is reachable the
	circuit nmfoperationalState is "enable" ?

	-----------------------------------------------
	How can I use the Status of the circuit to create an alarm rule
	for the circuit between Phase IV nodes.

	Thanks for any advice

	LK Lee
