Using DECmcc BMS 1.3
I'm having a problem with registering an SNMP entity. The device is a
DECpacket Probe 90 version 2.1. There were problems with 2.0 of the
probe but they're fixed in 2.1. Now the agent properly returns
"No Such Name" in response to a GetNext against an unsupported object.
The error I get when registering is -
"Partial registration success. Please retry later to complete the
registration."
The agent is reachable and I can communicate with the agent using the
registered name but a directory command returns -

I'v attached an SNMP log trace from the DECmcc command line and an IRIS
trace of the packets on the network.
It appears that the DECpacket Probe 90 is responding correctly.
Any ideas on why it only partially registers?

Hi, Each query gets a "No Such Name" response. MCC considers there is not enough information and then triggers a partial registration. I do not know the exact algorithm, it may be in another note. Do you have MIB extensions in 1.3.6.1.4.1.36 enterprise tree ? Benoit | |||||

The DECpacket probe SNMP agent does not support the DEC private MIB.
There is one query that doesn't get the "No Such Name" response; rmon.
I can use the SNMP AM to communicate with the probe including MIBII
system and interface objects. What do you mean by, "MCC considers there
is not enough information"?

The registration of DECPacket probe is successful on my side.
This device responds ok when queried for RMON object.
The only MIB's loaded in my MCC director are :
MCC> show mcc 0 tcpip_am all char
<... stuff deleted ...>
Mib Extensions Available = ( "rmon",
"EXP_RMON" )
These are the default MIB extensions.
Do you have others MIB extensions loaded and what are they ?
Looks like it is the case.
