6244.0. "Compute loop on VAX/VMS V6.1 installing EMS" by KERNEL::EVANSN (In spite of all temptations...) Thu Mar 02 1995 17:42

I haven't much info available at the moment as I have not
had a chance to speak to the customer yet, but, has
anybody heard of EMS installation going into a compute
loop when parsing table file on VMS 6.1 ??

Regards

Neal,

take care, the update process can take up to 8 hours, yes that is eight hours of sixty minutes.
During all that time, the thing computes, computes, computes...

Therefore we have to ask you to redo it and wait "long enough" to be sure it's an error.

By-the-way, the dictionary updates were tested by our quality assurance team in different
configurations, so there is at least 1 way in which it works.

Dirk,

Thanks, I had not done an install myself and it was the
customer who was devoid of any patience.

He left it overnight, about 14 hours of sixty minutes !!
All was ok after that.

Thanks again

Here the end-message of a full dictionary build

rather impressive, 16 hours of CPU for 19 hours elapsed time and thison a VAX 6000-440
