| First customer shipment (FCS) date for DECmcc V1.4 for Ultrix on CD media is
tomorrow, 10-FEB-1995. The TK50 media should be ready one week later.
FCS for DECmcc V1.4 for VMS on CD media is 17-MAR-1995, and the TK50 media
should be ready at the same time.
The slightly decoupled release dates for Ultrix and VMS are because our most
tight deadlines were the consolidated software libraries on CD which have
different release dates given by Digital.
I will post information of the media's availability as soon as I will receive
this information myself. I would think that these announcements also contain
instructions for how to order these media.
For kits to external customers, I should advise you to get them through the
official channels.

Hubert,
Apparently, several requests are coming from the field which are asking
the same question. Can you please put this reoccurring question (listed below)
into the notes file and/or send it to persons who ask so that we may have one
standard response. Thank-you in advance.
QUESTION:
"Is there an official SSB version (V1.4 & V2.4) of the
DECmcc products available on the network to -pull-
across from a public directory as we did previously
for the field test kits (T1.4 & T2.4)?"
ANSWER: "No"
Let me explain a bit for those who may need to understand why... The
"T" version kits are field test kits which the DECmcc engineering group has the
right to distribute to customers who would like to participate as field test
sites.
NOTE: for those customers who participated in evaluating
these field test versions (thank-you), however, the
software pulled from the public directories is the
property of Digital Equipment Corporation and is NOT
considered an official version of the product (supported
by Digital). That's what the SSB version is for, it
symbolizes the fact that it has been regression tested
extensively and has passed through Digitals official
release process (ensuring certain quality levels and
the availability of required ongoing support).
WARNING !!! For those of you who pulled "T" (field
test) versions of the software off of the network,
this software has a "time-bomb" embedded into it to
ensure that it is not used in production environments.
The ULTRIX field test was started in September and ended
in December 1994; the OpenVMS field test started in
December 1994 and will end in March 1995.
THE FIELD TEST ("T1.4/T2.4") SOFTWARE WILL CEASE TO
OPERATE AS OF MAY 15, 1995.
Customers can purchase the official "V1.4 or V2.4" versions of the
software via the normal ordering channels. Software is available via the
CONDIST (CD-ROM distribution for ULTRIX/RISC as of February 10th, 1995, and for
OpenVMS/VAX as of March 17th, 1995) or via normal ordering channels (TK50 media
for ULTRIX/RISC as of the end of February, and for OpenVMS as mid-March).
Please check to see if your customer has "right to next version"
licensed media via automatic update software subscription services (LPS:
QT-*****-L9) or due to the fact that they purchased a traditional update license
(QA-*****-RA) at the time that they bought their original V1.3 or V2.3 DECmcc
license (prior to 1995). If they do, then V1.4/V2.4 has already been purchased;
if your customer has NEITHER of these options, then they will have to purchase
the new version media. Discounts are available via your local sales
representative under normal migration conditions.
No special migration part numbers from V1.3 to V1.4 are available except
for ULTRIX users who can chose to migration from V1.3 or V1.4 to the V2.0 OSF
version of DECmcc (PNM200). If your customer is an ULTRIX user who wishes to
migrate to the ALPHA AXP OSF1 based solution, please contact me. If your
customer is an OpenVMS/VAX user, then they should migrate to the V1.4/V2.4
version of the DECmcc.
Lastly, ALL DECmcc users are invited to pull a copy of the DECmcc
Newsletter from the public directory. It provides information regarding new
releases, migration plans, product positioning, training, and best of all, the
establishment of a DECmcc Users Group beginning this spring. Act NOW!!! Pull
across a copy of the Newsletter and fill in the DECmcc User's Group
Questionnaire in ATTACHMENT "D" and return it to me ASAP to be added to the
invitation list. Don't wait, these invitations will be sent out very soon!!!
Best Regards,
Susan Pomerleau
