6184.0. ""C Allocation Error" from iconic map" by CSC32::J_RYER () Mon Nov 28 1994 15:37

I'll forward below a report from a customer who is seeing a
"C Allocation error" when trying to get a list of all domains
from the iconic map. I've searched through this notesfile,
and found several previous references to this particular error
(notes 5106, 5374, 6053, and 6128), but most of the recommendations
had to do with raising virtualpagecnt and/or the process pgflquo,
and those seem to be plenty large in this case.

Any other suggestions of parameters to adjust on the customer's
system prior to escalating this problem via IPMT?

    Thanks,
    Jane Ryer

Environment:

VMS 6.1
Using DNS namespace (running on same machine, confidence set to low)
MCC 1.3 with MCC_KERNEL_SHE.EXE image at "DECMCC V1.3-04A"
    	     MCC_ICONIC_MAP_PM.EXE at "DECMCC V1.3I-03"
VAX 6330 with 256MB
VIRUALPAGECNT 532288
PGFLQUO 298615
BYTLIM 196480

Problem:

We are getting a C Allocation error when:

- running the MCC iconic map PM
- clicking on the "file" menu item
- clicking on "open domain"
- clicking on "filter" to get a list of all domains
- we get a window stating "C Allocation Error" at this time.

    Hi ,

I had the same error previously (Note 2753) and we
actually had to modify the virtualpagecnt and pgflquo,
and ALSO increment the System Page file size and that
    resolved our problem

The quotas and such are set pretty large; it's a 256MB system and has
    had MCC_AUDITs recommendations doubled.

    The page file shows:

Page File Usage: Free Resv Total
    	DISK$SYSDISK:SYS0.SYSEXE]PAGEFILE.SYS	125232 92049	125232
    	DISK$SYSTUFF:[000000]PAGEFILE.SYS;1	374992	280232	374992

I think the user process quotas and VIRTUALPAGECNT were mentioned in
    .0.

    Thanks, Gary
