6156.0. "DECmcc, DECnis & DNVEXT?" by WARABI::CHIUANDREW () Wed Nov 02 1994 00:25

    Hi,

    Customer would like to buy DECnis as network backbone, they are running
    DECmcc without DECnet-Extension, questions is: Can they run manage
    DECnis without DECnet-Extension? If No, then they have to upgrade
    DECnet to DECnet-Extension, will DECmcc still work (existing
    event notifications, alarms, traps, etc..) after the DECnet-VAX
    extension upgrade?

    Thanks

    Andrew,

    This is my present experience with advice... you don't HAVE to have to
    install Extensions or OSI on the system that runs MCC. Any machine in
    your network can act as a load host. However, you do need at least 1
    machine as a load host and I believe Extensions is the minimum
    requirement.

    If you install DECnet VAX Extensions on your existing MCC machine it
    will be no trouble. Extensions is very similar to Phase IV DECnet. I
    would recommend that you upgrade it to DECnet/OSI if you can run a
    minimum of OpenVMS V6.0, which is a requirement I believe...?

    As an aside, remember that you get to use the CMIP AM to manage the NIS
    routers. This alone has won a router deal for us... Good luck.

6156.2re-install MCC after upgrade to DNVEXT?WARABI::CHIUANDREWThu Nov 10 1994 01:4010
    re .1
    Thanks for your advise, customer is using MCC withour DECnet-VAX
    extension and they want to use it as load host for DECnis and this
    requires DNVEXT, but I just wonder do we have to re-install DECmcc
    after upgrade to DNVEXT?

    Will they lose MCC configuration after the DNVEXT upgrade?

    thanks
