6099.0. "Multiple reports of alarms/events" by EDUOZ::BOERS (Jack - singed by the candlestick!) Sat Aug 27 1994 19:40
I would appreciate if someone could help me out with this customer
problem.
Setup:- Vaxstation 4000 Model90 running VMS 5.5-2, DECmcc 1.3. DEC
3000 Model300 running OpenVMS AXP 1.5, displaying Iconic map.
Whenever an event occurs, it is reported once in the notification
window, and the appropriate icon changes colour.
When an alarm fires, a single mail message is sent, the appropriate
icon changes colour, and there are FIVE notifications in the
notification window.
When the alarms are re-enabled at midnight, each alarm is reported FOUR
times in the notification window as it is enabled. The carte blanc
reporting of events will soon be discarded in favour of selected
events, but the customer wants to get rid of the duplication now, in
the early stages of the MCC implementation.
There is currently only one domain that has alarms enabled, and it has
a parent domain, which has a parent domain, which is the top domain,
and notifications are enabled for that domain.
There is one batch job that enables alarms, and the only other MCC
session is the iconic map, where the alarms all show up as disabled (as
expected)
This site will soon have a large quantity of alarms, and do not want
multiple reports of the same alarm.
Any help would be very gratefully accepted.
Kind Regards
Jack

I am not reporting a bug, I am requesting assistance with a problem I
have encountered that I would assume is not an issue that the other
users of MCC world-wide are having, but may have encountered. I would
love to enter an SPD, but the customer wants results NOW!
Thank you for the advice, but has anyone out there encountered this
before?
Regards

I need more informations about your configuration in
order to help you with this customer problem.

6099.4 | Multiple requests | WELLIN::MCCALLUM | | Wed Aug 31 1994 07:44 | 9 |

You probably have multiple notification requests on the same rule
firing.
If you look carefully at each notification event you can tie it up to
a notification request - work out which requests you don't want/need
and delete them.
