6079.0. "Can't register, address in use" by EDUOZ::BOERS (Jack - singed by the candlestick!) Fri Aug 12 1994 03:08

I am running MCC on a 4000 model 90, running 5.5-2 OpenVMS. I am using
DNS. When I attempt to register a concentrator, when I put in the
ethernet address, I get the error stating that this address is already
in use by another entity. I only have about a dozen entities
registered, and none of them use this address.

Can anyone please tell me how I can find out what entity MCC/DNS thinks
is using this address, and if it is not actually in use, how can I
convince MCC/DNS to allow me to register my Concentrator.

    Kind regards
    Jack Boers

Before you go romping around in dns$control, did you try this:

mcc> show station <problem-address-here> all ident
mcc> show bridge <problem-address-here> all ident
mcc> show concentrator <problem-address-here> all ident

etc.

I tried those commands, and all I got back was that the address was
there. There was no further information. It recognised a concentrator
with the relevant address. I can only assume that it went and talked
to it to get the response.

Any further assistance greatly appreciated, as I can't get the entity
    registered at all

Just in case anyone else gets this, my trouble shooting revealed that
even though the concentrator had been removed from DNS, there was still
a link to the MCC_COLLECTOR_BACKtranslation directory. Having removed
the soft link enabled me to register the node correctly. What a
    crock!!
