6068.0. "Notifications not enabled when starting Iconic Map" by ANNECY::BOURDILLON (Cats are the next step in evolution) Thu Aug 04 1994 06:48

Hello,

An urgent request for help has filtered its way down to me ....

A customer has developed his own access module and, in certain conditions, the
notifications for his entities stay in the state "being enable" (his words) and
are never activated.

The tests used to reproduce this are as follows :

1. Quitting the iconic map and restarting it puts all of the notifications in
the state "being enable" and they never become enabled again.
THIS IS NOT REPRODUCIBLE AT DIGITAL!

2. Starting a second iconic map from the same DECterm causes the first map to
disappear as soon as the copyright notice of the second map appears.

   # mcc_iconic_map &
   # mcc_iconic_map & (first map now disappears)

AGAIN, THIS IS NOT REPRODUCIBLE AT DIGITAL.

The customer is using :
	DS5000 module 300 with 128 MBytes memory
	mcc 1.3, ultrix 4.3

I don't have any more information about the configuration.

Does anyone have any idea what could cause these failures on the customer's
machine, which do not happen at Digital?

6068.1IT REALLY IS URGENT - PLEASE HELPANNECY::BOURDILLONCats are the next step in evolutionFri Aug 05 1994 06:018
Sorry to put a "pushy" note like this in just one day after the original, but ..

The customer is getting rather impatient and is asking for someone to be
sent to his site. Any ideas on the base note would be very gratefully received.

Apologetically,

Ben

If it is so urgent, why dont you file a high priority CLD?
Posting a plee in the notes file is a sure way to get your
request ignored.

File a CLD and get it tracked.

    Please lighten up, dave.

Ben, I doubt that you your problem will get _ignored_ in the
conference, but it's guaranteed that it will not get on the work list
for the people supporting MCC if you rely on the notes file for
support. (The net effect is the same as being ignored, though...)

If it's a customer situation, then you must follow the prescribed
guidelines, if you want any hope of getting it fixed. (I.e. file a
CLD.) They (the sustaining engineering on MCC) can only address CLDs,
and they're probably too understaffed to ever get to the bottom of
    _that_ list.

And no, I'm sorry, but I can't help you myself or I would've done so.

    regards,
    doug
