6037.0. "DAP Merge command problem, won't merge event list" by MARVA2::CARNELL (We're gonna need another Timmy!) Tue Jun 28 1994 11:06
I have a customer who is using the undocumented DAP command MERGE to handle
their large collection of custom MIBs (big telcomm project with lot's of
custom built black boxes to manage). Until now they have not had any problems
and the MERGE command seems to work just fine, but now they are begining
to define enterprise specific traps and they have turned up a bug.
Seems that the MERGE command will merge everything except event definitions.
Specifically, it seems to clear the "Event_Partition ConfigurationEvents
Definition Event_List" of the sub class before it merges the event list from
the new MIB so that all you get are the events from the new MIB.
I have suggested a work around where they hand merge the evnets from all of
their MIBs into one events only MIB and always make that the last MIB merged
into the dictionary. But I was wondering if there was a better or cleaner way
to handle this?
Oh course it would be great if the MERGE command were fixed to properly merge
events, but what is the likelyhood of that happening? Barring that, can anyone
suggest a better way to work around this problem?
Thanks,
Paul.
