6020.0. "INVRANGE error when RECORDING PHAVE IV NODE" by SALUD::ORTIZ () Wed Jun 15 1994 19:14

I have a customer that is running MCC 1.3 and has registered some phase
IV nodes that is running DECnet VAX Extensions. He is doing some
recording on these nodes every 15 minutes. There are times he will
see in Netserver.log the following message

DCL-W-INVRANGE, field specification is out of bounds - check sign and
    size

From what I can find about the error is this:

If you specify an expression with a negative value,
or with a value that exceeds the number of bits in the
string, DCL displays the INVRANGE error message.

This error causes NML_xxx processes that are generated by CML to stick
around and thus he will get around 10 NML_xxx processes that are not
    useful.

    Has anyone seen this problem?

    Any help would be appreciated,

6020.1Could be DMS$NETMAN.COMWELLIN::MCCALLUMMon Jun 20 1994 06:4114

I have had a similar problem and traced it to a procedure
DMS$NETMAN.com which is defined as the procedure
to run on the remote machines NML object. This procedure seems
to use some inforrmation from sys$net to decide whether to run
the common agent or nml - I don't know what was wrong with this - there
is no support on the common agent any more. I commented out the
decision process and the problem went away.

I suggest you look at what is being run on an nml connect to the remote
    machine.

I didnt get lots of processes though.

Hello Ralf,

First of all, take care using DETmcc which is a not supported tool. I know
you are asking to port it on AXP but for now, no support is done about that
even under VAX.

I tried to reproduce the problem using mcc on a phase 5 node, and I get
a net$server.log file like see end the note.

Please have a look at the note #6020, maybe this could help you.

It is not possible to set a number limit of net$server.log files version ?

Regards,
