5883.0. "Alarm rule fails with %MCC-E-INSUFBUFFER" by BUSSTP::JHANNAH () Fri Feb 25 1994 09:26

    (DECstation 5000/240, Ultrix V4.3a, MCC V1.3.0)

     I have an alarm rule which goes in to the following state whenever I
    try to enable it:-

    State:		Disabled
    Substate:		Disabled by error condition
    Error Condition:	%MCC-E-INSUFBUFFER,  data not
    			returned due to lack of return data
    			buffer space

    If I just execute the alarm command myself it works okay:-

    MCC> show node ayonis hdlc link w622-3-1 logical station w622-3-1
    protocol stat

    Node LOCAL_NS:.ayonis HDLC Link W622-3-1 Logical Station W622-3-1
    AT 1994-02-25-14:25:05.729 Status

                             Protocol State = Running

    I've increased all the parameters on the Ultrix system as per the
    installation guide, but that hasn't helped any. Any ideas?

    Regards,
    		Jim.

This misleading message rings a bell! We once had this error and it
turned out to be a protection problem. Check access to the MIR files in
/var/mcc, especially the group these files are in. The process running
the alarm rules must belong to the same group. Also, some MIR files need
write access, even if they are only read.

5883.2Still not workingBUSSTP::JHANNAHMon Feb 28 1994 11:438
    I've tried changing the protections, but it didn't make any difference.
    Also my other alarm rules work okay, it's just this new one to query a
    recently installed DECnis that doesn't seem to be working. All my old
    rules which query DEMSA's etc still work okay. Any ideas?

	Jim,

     Did you kill all your MCC processes after changing the protections ?
     Changing protection will only be taken in account if you restart all
     the MCC processes.

     Regards.

     Pierre.

5883.4Restarting the processes fixed it.BUSSTP::JHANNAHThu Mar 03 1994 09:459
    My mistake, I changed the protections but didn't restart the MCC
    processes. After doing that, the rule is functioning very nicely.

    Thanks for your help.
