5881.0. "Polycenter Products on OSF ??" by SHIPS::DAVENPORT_D () Fri Feb 25 1994 04:55

    Hi,

I am working on a bid to supply a large, distributed X400/OSF
system to the UK Meterological Office. This system will require remote
    system and
network management, at approximately 100 locations around the UK. I am
proposing to use a set of Polycenter products, but need to know when
these will be avilable for OSF, as opposed to ULTRIX. If they would work,
I would also like to use HUBwatch and MAILbus View, currently only
available on VMS. The proposed products are listed in the schematic
below, alongside the System/Network Management Station.

I would be very grateful if someone can tell me which of these polycenter
products will be available for OSF and when, prefereably with a pointer
    to the SPD.

Any other comments on the proposed system design outlined below (ie
will it work !!) will also be gratefully received.

    Thanks in advance,

    David Davenport @SBP

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------

    System Outline:

System to comprise of a central System/Network Management station (and a
hot standby), connected over 64K leased lines to 5 regional switching
hubs, each of which is connected to a further 20 Outstation systems,
again over 64K leased lines. The system is to be used for X400 (MAILbus
    400) message switching.

The system will also have the capability of using X25 and IDSN dial-up
lines in the case of failure of the 64K leased lines. The central
System/Network Management station is to perform all system and network
management, including software loadsand backups - most of the regional
switching nodes and Outstations will be 'lights out' environments.

    Logical schematic of system/network management:

David,

POLYCENTER Network Manager 400 is to the best of my knowledge only available on
VMS. What is available today on Ultrix is POLYCENTER Network Manager 200.

POLYCENTER Network Manager 200 is planned on Alpha/AXP OSF/1 in the near future.

For the other POLYCENTER products, I would suggest to ask the question in the
POLYCENTER notefile NOTED::POLYCENTER.

Best regards,

Marc.

PNM200 does not include ELM (Bridge, Concentrator, FDDI). Is it planned
to port these modules? (Many of our customers use at least Bridge AM).

Robert,

Up to my knowledge, the Extended Lan Manager (ELM) kit is not currently planned
on OSF/1.

If there is a strong business need, it might however evolve.

Best regards,

Marc.
