5798.0. "Proteon: set ifadminstatus doesn't work." by HITIT::ELUMAR () Mon Dec 27 1993 05:19

    Hello,

    I'm running DECMCC V1.3 on ULTRIX V4.3. My problem is with the PROTEON
    router.

    SNMP setup is o.k. on proteon and community name and read-write access
    is also o.k.

    I can't set the INTERFACE 2 to DOWN or UP via command :

    MCC> set snmp router2 interface 2 ifAdminStatus = DOWN

    it gives " INV-VALUE " error.

    I also can't do this via Iconic Map. In the Iconic Map I can see that
    "ifAdminStatus" is settable. All of the show comments work fine for
    Proteon and the mib definition for Proteon shipped with MCC is loaded
    in the dictionary.

    Any help highly appreciated.

    Best regards and Merry Christmas.

    Nurettin.

	It's the agent which returns the "invalid value" error (badValue in
	the SNMP world). You should see the set operation working correctly
	on the Ultrix agent.

5798.2agent works on Ultrix & OSFHITIT::ELUMARThu Dec 30 1993 07:2014
    Hello,

    SNMP agent on Ultrix is working fine. I can do SNMP sets to Alpha/OSF
    machines. e.g. I can set interface 2 (fddi) ifadminstatus to DOWN on an
    Alpha machine. But I'm not sure about the SNMP of Proteon, altough it
    gives good response to all show commands. Can it be that Proteon
    doesn't let this parameter to be modified ?

    Thanks for your reply.

    I've run into similiar problems with Proteon snmp agents. They don't
    always play by the rules (not that we do of course). I spent some time
    tracking down a problem dealing with mcc and ONEVIEW, Proteon's
    token ring manager. During the investigation I discovered that ONEVIEW
    only supported a subset of MIB-II; not all objects at the system level
    where available.
