5784.0. "Insufficient virtual memory" by GLDOA::KATZ (Follow your conscience) Wed Dec 15 1993 07:33

I have started seeing insufficient virtual memory as the reason
we miss occasional export polls. I am using a vaxstation 4000/60
and have 72mb of memory. I have raised the virtual memory from
150,000 to 250,000 and still get the same error. How can
I determine what the virtual memory should be? Thanks.

Just asking the obvious: did you check Account Pgflquota, SYSGEN
Virtualpagecnt and the real size of your pagefile?

Which process is eating the pagefile? How many export requests do you
run? Do you get the failure immediately, soon, after long time?

It all depends on what you are doing. A pagefile of 250,000 is not
unusual and could well be too small.

My quotas are fine. I have run the audit program also and not
seen anything strange. I just raised my virtual memory to
400,000 today. I will be watching to see what happens.

I have a simular problem when the monitor program is running. It
appears that the program uses system calls to get its information. That
    information is carried by SRPs.

Once the SPR has completed its mission, the packet is discarded and
NOT returned to the free pool space. As this continues, the memory
shrinks until a crash/reboot recaptures the lost memory.

     Check your SRPs.
