5768.0. "Registering Phase V node on DECmcc running Wave 3" by CHILKA::JAGGI () Tue Nov 30 1993 11:41

Hi,

I have some questions concerning the registration of Phase V node on DECmcc
running on a DECnet/OSI node.
As far I know, DECmcc does not allow to specify an address for DECnet
phase V nodes (it's normal as the nodes themselves are registering their
addresses in the DNS tower, from where normally DECmcc should get them).

Few configuration statements :

- DECmcc may be installed using DNS or its own repository.
- DECmcc can be install on DECnet Phase IV or
			   DECnet VaxExtenstion or
			   DECnet/OSI.
- DECnet/OSI can be installed using DNS.
- DECnet/OSI can be installed using LNO.

From above we may build the following table :

			OSI/DNS OSI/LNO
	MCC/DNS 1 2
	MCC/noDNS 3 4

Case 1:	No problem, when I register a phase V node, I get the node address
from its tower in DNS. This case should be the standard case.

Case 2: This case I think, is not to be met since when you have DNS used for
DECmcc repository, you will likely have DNS used too for the MCC
	node.

Case 3: In this case, where you have installed DECmcc with its own local
repository, but you are running it on a node installed with DECnet/
	OSI using DNS :

Questions :o When registering a phase V node, where DECmcc get the
phase V node entity address from ?
o Is it detecting that is running on a node having DNS to
lookup the tower of the node to be registered ?
o Do we have any particular syntax to register phase V
		      node in that case ?
o Is it a case to avoid on customer site ?

Case 4: In this case, where you have installed DECmcc with its own
repository, but you are running it on a node installed with DECnet/
	OSI using LNO :

Question : o When registering a phase V node, where DECmcc get the
phase V node entity address from ?
o Is it looking into the LNO clerk cache to lookup the
tower of the node to be register ?
o Do we have any particular syntax to register phase V
		     node in that case ?
		   o Is it supported ?

Up to now, if we were running in the configuration described by cases 3, 4
on a nodes having DECnet phase IV or DECnet Vax Extension, we were getting
the address from the DECnet database. Therefore what about these
configurations when running DECnet/OSI ?

Thanks for any answers
