5719.0. "FDDI Ring Autotopology fails" by BERN02::FUCHS (FRED FUCHS) Fri Nov 05 1993 05:51

    Hi,

    I have the following Problem.

I want to use the LAN Autotopoloy Application to autoregister and map
the FDDI Ring. I choose Automap and Autoregister and I provide an SMT
Gateway Address 08-00-2B-2A-4F-C7. This address belongs to a
DECBridge 610. It starts an it looks fine but it tells me in a new
window entities found in map file, but mot in domain.

So i decided to register one of the DECBridge manualy but this failed
    with the following error message.

    mcc>regi fddi-station .grd.bern.net.lb610test address = 08-00-2B-2A-4F-C7

    FDDI-Station EMD:.grd.bern.net.lb610test
    AT 5-NOV-1993 11:49:08

The requested operation cannot be completed
MCC Routine Error = %MCC-W-ENTUNKNOWN, unknown entity: !AD

Any help or hints would be welcome

Fred,

you cannot register the SMT gateway itself as an FDDI station. This
restriction is documented somewhere (don't remember if docs or release
notes). But since it talks RBMS anyway, this is not a big restriction.
Just register it as class Bridge.

5719.2Use FDDI MAC to reg. DECbridgeQUIVER::HAROKOPUSWed Nov 10 1993 17:077
Actually, you should be able to register the DECbridge as an
FDDI-station. You will need to use the MAC address of the FDDI
line on the bridge (port 1).

    Regards,
