5701.0. "Another exporting woe" by ADO75A::BOUCHER () Mon Nov 01 1993 01:41

Greetings,

I have a customer with the following config:

	VMS V5.5-2
	DECmcc V1.3.0
	VAXstation 4000 Model 60
	72Mb RAM

He is having problems with exporting data from SNMP entities. The problem is
the exporter background process falls over periodically. (7-10 days).
The error message is:

SGK: Error attempting to close socket 5
Close
: mount device busy
%MCC-E-QWRITERR, error writing queue file

I have been back through the conference and had a look at other references to
this problem ( 3499, 3734, 5229) and the main concensus was either file limits,
pagefile size, or would be fixed in V1.3.

My limits are as follows:

I have set up the batch job with a WSextent of 30000, and it has still
maxed out at that, with a large number of page faults (even before the
working set reached 30000.

Q: What is a realistic working set for the exporter background process ? (
I am exporting on SNMP *, int *, all cisco routers. Approx 64 x 2 int
routers, 4 x 20 int routers, 2 x 8 int routers, 4 x 4 int routers.
Exporting is being done every 1 hour)

Q: Any ideas on what is causing the error ?

The customer is very touchy WRT exporting, as they are providing reports to
client departments, and have had trouble of late.

Your help is appreciated.
