5643.0. "L2 COST on the DECNIS and MCC" by MARS03::THOMAS () Wed Oct 06 1993 08:27

 I didn't succeed to implement alarm on L2 COST for DECNET/OSI nodes.

 When may we expect this implementation ?

 This note is in MCC and DECNIS conference.

 Here is the information about the L2 cost problem for DECnet/OSI nodes.

 Problem description:
 L2 cost attribute is not supported for NODE * ROUTING CIRCUIT * by
 alarm rules.

 Please find below the following attachments:
 - extract of NCL command showing L2 cost attribute
 - alarm rule to monitor changes of L2 cost attributes
 - error message when creating above alarm rule

I do not think this is a DECNIS problem. L2 Cost is an Integer -- nothing
special about it! It is defined in the MSL as "Unsigned32 [1..63]".

5643.2Known pb ? fix ?MARS03::THOMASFri Oct 08 1993 11:589

    	Is it a known problem for MCC team ?

    	Is there a fix ?  Where ?

5643.3L2 COST ok with SHOW, pb with alarm WHY ?MARS03::THOMASWed Oct 20 1993 11:32144
	As you can see in this MCC trace, the L2 COST attribute can be
displayed from MCC (cf circ W618-3-0).

	So the problem seems to be either in the NODE A.M. or in the ALARM FM
 (not in the MSL descriptor).

	For my customer, this pb is important because this circuit (and several
 other circuits) are international links and they have to be inspected on this
 attribute.

	I will appreciate any idea/comment.

    The DNA5 AM handles L2 cost just fine as you can see from the
    output. I suspect it's an Alarm FM problem which I'm unfamiliar
    with internally. I'm surpised at the error message "datatype
    unsupported".  We're returning a simple Unsigned32 Integer.

    	As i only test this alarm on DECNIS,
