Hello, I have a customer who wishes to manage Vitalink bridges, Lanbridge 150's and 200's, ds90l+ and ds700s, and Wanrouters using DECmcc. These devices are located locally on an extended LAN and remotely in a routed, NOT BRIDGED, network. Is the protocol used to manage the bridges and terminal servers, using their specific access modules routable? I don't believe it is but I just want to make sure my assumption is correct. The customer has designed a network with three different LAN's connected to three systems. Their design goal as I understand it is to keep all the traffic separate on these LAN's. Could the bridges be replace with DECbridge 90's and the DECagent 90 ( I think this is the name) to manage the bridges on the remote LAN's using SNMP ? How do you manage bridges and terminal servers in remote locations from a single management platform and can we do it with the hardware mentioned above ? Thanks Harry

The first answer is directed at the DEC Lanbridges and Vitalinks. The DEC Lanbridge 150 and 200 use a non-routable protocol. The Vitalink by default uses a non-routable protocol accessable via the VBAM access module. There is an SNMP based version of the OS and I guess some folks have had luck using this, my customer has not (bugs with DLS and backup circuits). Connect DECmcc station to all lans...probably not. First you are going to have interesting routing issues to deal with, but secondly, I don't know of a system that supports more than two ethernet controllers (anyone who knows different, please jump in)...at any rate, it is not going to be straight forward. Replace the bridges with DECbridge 90's?, yep should be no sweat. Terminal servers...the DS700s are SNMP managable. Looking at the MIB for DECHUB 90, it seems that DS90L are also manageable via SNMP.
