5621.0. "Design Q - 3 scenarios, best approach?" by GRANPA::AMEISHEID () Tue Sep 28 1993 08:17

Given pilot, test bed and production network scenarios, I am looking
for input on the easiest/best approach to the domain configuration in
DECmcc - one toplevel domain with three subdomains or three separate
toplevel domains (or any other suggestions)? The testbed will be used
to test equipment/applications that will be moved into the production
    network.

    Thanks.

    Anna,

It seems difficult to recommand you any sort of domain configuration
without some more information on your 3 scenarios.

Are you planned to run all of them on the same machine or on different
    machines ?

Is it the same equipment or type of equipment on the 3 scenarios ?

Do you to have similar config or domain hierarchy in all 3 scenarios ?

How independant or coupled are these 3 scenarios ? If you have an alarm
for an equipment, where the user would expect it to be shown ?

The domain concept offers you total flexibility to group the entities,
both for visualisation purposes and for collection of alarms. So, the
best way of designing your domain hierarchy depends on what you want to
see on your maps and what are the domains on which alarming will be
    done, ...

You can contact me off-line, if you prefer.

    Best regards,

    Marc.
