| > 1. What is the MID translation/integration tool?
You mean MIB? The MIB translator takes a MIB (Management Information
Base) description file in ASN.1 format according to RFC1212 and
translates it into a format that MCC can understand. In other words, it
makes the features of an SNMP manageable device known to MCC.

You can provide a description with any alarm. The description can be
seen by clicking on the notification line (not the icon) or you can have
it e.g. mailed to you.
> 3. Will LTM provide a breakdown of the amount of traffic flowing
> between two nodes?
No. LTM does not count end-to-end traffic. But you could use LTM-Reports
(an ASSETS tool) to get this functionality. Or even better: go for the
new DECpacketprobe 90 and ProbeWatch. Cheaper, many more functions, SNMP
RMON device ... ProbeWatch is ULTRIX only.
> 4. Will LTM recognize the Novell IPX protocol?
Yes. Novell is protocol type 81-37 and 81-38
> 5. Can the iconic map be printed? If so, what printers are supported?
Yes, with DECwindows/MOTIF print screen function to PostScript Sixel
(LN03) or DDIF. You can't print the whole map at once, though.
> 6. Is RMON supported? What is RMON?
Yes. RMON is a standard SNMP MIB for remote Ethernet monitoring. RMON is
implemented in LAN probes.
> 7. Can SUN/HP boxes be managed by the SNMP module?
Yes, if they run an SNMP agent. ... I know their agents - you can't do
much, but it works.
