5588.0. "SNMP does not work at all" by ATHINA::FENNY () Mon Sep 13 1993 11:47

       Hello,

       I have a big problem at a customer site. I have Ultrix V4.3,
       DECnet/OSI V5.1, DECnis V2.1.13 and DECmcc BMS and ELM V1.2. I can
       do Phase V registration and the FDDI Autotopolgy also works. My
       problem is with the SNMP AM. 
    
    I register an IP node and I get no errors. I go to the 
    child entities of the node, double click the Interface or ATTable and I 
    get the error :

    MCC-E-ILVEOC, end of constructor has been reached

    For the entities IP, ICMP, TCP, UDP, EGP and SNMP the SHOW (CHAR or 
    COUNTERS or whatever) gives me the error "Invalid String Descriptor".

    Do you have any idea what is happening ? Time is very tight, I should 
    have it ready by the 20th of September ...

    If I use the DECmcc command language and do 

    > show snmp hermes interface 1,  I get

    		ifIndex = 1

    Then I do

    > show snmp hermes interface 1 all attr, and I get

    The requested operation cannot be completed
    VMS Routine Error = Error 0
    MCC Routine Error = %MCC-E-INV_DESC, inavalid string descriptor 
    encountered
    ifPHYSAddress = %X312e332e362e312e342e312e33362e31
    ifAdminStatus =
    %MCC-E-NOENTITY, no corresponding entity instance exists
    ifspecific = " ...

    At the field ifspecific I get junk, everytime a different kind of junk.

    ANY IMMEDIATE HELP DEEPLY APPRECIATED.

	Could be a problem with the agent. Can you define MCC_TCPIP_AM_LOG
	to 60 and get a PDU dump of what the agent is sending back and mail 
	it to me?
