Could you please forward the following EUROPEAN TECHNOLOGY TRAINING
ANNOUNCEMENT thru your appropriate channels.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
POLYCENTER Netview Forum
FORUM OVERVIEW
Digital has announced a relationship with IBM which includes the
licensing of NetView/6000 management software, joint engineering and
development, a combined associates (ISV) program, and joint marketing.
The Technology Integration Group (TIG) in Valbonne has put together a
technical forum to support this activity. TIG will also make available on
demand one day customer presentations at the Executive Customer Centre
(ECC-E), Sophia Antipolis on a scheduled basis, further information
regarding this will be made available at the forum.
POLYCENTER Netview Announcement
Digital has announced a relationship with IBM, this relationship will
result in a port of the NetView/6000 product to DEC OSF/1 on Alpha AXP
systems in early 1994. The Digital/IBM relationship will also
produce management solutions for Windows NT on both Alpha AXP and Intel
systems (targeted for 1994), followed by OpenVMS on Alpha AXP
systems. Digital will market NetView/6000 as POLYCENTER NetView. The
POLYCENTER NetView product will be a network management solution as
well as the foundation for integration of additional networked systems
management applications. Digital and IBM will jointly develop
POLYCENTER NetView and NetView/6000 with future releases made available
simultaneously.
As part of the relationship, IBM's NetView/6000 Association and
Digital's POLYCENTER Partner program, both recruitment programs for ISV
applications, will expand to become a joint program between the two
companies. The intent is for all applications and MIBs from each member
company to be able to operate with both NetView/6000 and POLYCENTER
NetView.
The Digital and IBM relationship is significant for several reasons. As
a "true" business relationship, Digital and IBM will share costs and
reap the benefits together. This relationship leverages a defacto
standard to move the industry forward and exemplifies a growing trend of
cooperation by major industry players. It is expected to benefit
customers by increasing their choice of ISV management applications.
TARGET AUDIENCE
This forum is strictly for Digital Internal personnel only. The targeted
audience is sales and consultant personnel directly involved in the support
and sales of the POLYCENTER product set.
It is also intended for Network management consultants involved in RFI/RFP
and bid proposal.
FORUM OBJECTIVES
The major objective of this forum is to ensure that the Digital Internal
personnel directly impacted by the announcement clearly understand the
marketing reasons and the benefits to all concerned, both from the
marketing and technical perspective.
Provide European input to Corporate with respect to migration strategy and
implementation. The Work Shop is intended to all consultants to air their
views of the issues facing Digital in Europe with regards the announcement
in general.
This forum will also provide a good technical understanding of the
NetView/6000 product and a strong appreciation of the benefits this
product brings.
It is also an objective to provide a good user level understanding of the
product from the End User Interface perspective.
