5559.0. "SNMP entity, interface max 16 ??" by PLUNDR::LOWEG (WANTED!! A modern day Robin Hood.) Fri Sep 03 1993 07:10

Can anybody confirm or comment on the following scenario and its
    result.

I don't fully understand the concepts but the t/s I have off the
    customer follows the overview paragraph.
    OVERVIEW:
They are snmp managing sisco routers and it gives the error message
when they try to add more than 16 devices off the router. If an existing
device is removed dropping them down to 15 devices and then add the new
device it works ok and they get the error message when the try to add the
one they removed back. The bad news is the customer is running DECmcc
V1.1 on an Ultrix V4.2 system. I have already alerted him to support
implications and that it might be more advantageous to upgrade both.

    CUSTOMER TROUBLESTATEMENT:
First we add a new router to be monitored using the pallette, then a
connection is created between the routers. Then the interface database
for the previously existing router is updated with the new IP address
for the new connection upon trying to save this, the following error
    message apppears.

No ELMS poll since last save for object XXXX
    Database update unsuccessful.

It appears that this happens when trying to update the interface
database with the IP address of a device that already has 16
connections to it and that you are trying to add the 17th.

Can you post the actual log here. I am confused why you are
	getting an ELMS error message.

	Rahul.
5559.2Is there a log file created ???PLUNDR::LOWEGWANTED!! A modern day Robin Hood.Tue Sep 07 1993 07:049

Thanks for your reply Rahul, however:-

Can you expand on what you mean by "actual log", so I can ask the
customer to supply me with what you are looking for.

By "actual log" I mean a log of the FCL commands along with the
output (including the error messages). You could either do a screen
capture or use the MCC> USE LOGGING FILE <filename>
command to log to a file.

Gary - it looks like your customer is using DECmcc Management Station
for ULTRIX, not DECmcc Director or Basic Management System. Try
conference molar::msu.

Rahul, thanks for your help. I have asked the customer for a step by
step list of what he is doing and he said he will try to do it in the
near future. However, the reason for his apathy now, is that they have
a workaround. They have registered the device twice running 16
interfaces off one and subsequently up to 16 of the 2nd registered
device. So don't hold your breath.

Andy, thanks for your help. I will try the msu conference, if my apathy
rises above that of the customers at the moment :-). Although he did
    specify he was using MCC.

    Well Folks,

Looks like I have the same problem with MCC 1.3 and vms 5.5-2. My
customer is able to look at only "about 20" interfaces on his cisco.
He has more interfaces on this router and would like to look at them as
well. Is this a MIB issue, a limitation of the SNMP_am or what?

Maybe the MIB... I have a Cisco box and can see 38 interfaces on it
thusly:

MCC> SHOW SNMP BBSOC3 INT *

(list of 38 interfaces results)
