5458.0. "DECmcc V1.3 <-> DECnet/OSI V5.1A (ULTRIX) ?" by KETJE::PACCO (Horum omnium fortissimi sunt Belgae) Tue Aug 10 1993 14:02

    Has anybody tested DECmcc V1.3 / ULTRIX
    on top of
    DECnet/OSI V5.1A.

    This maintenance release of DECnet did change the DNS programming
    interface to the DNS clerk. Therefore my question.

    Can DECnet be upgraded to V5.1A without breaking DECmcc ?
    Should DECmcc be reinstalled after the update ?
    Or will DECmcc V1.3 not run any more ?

    	Regards,
    	Dominique.

5458.1DECmcc V1.3 incompatible with DECnet V5.1A !KETJE::PACCOHorum omnium fortissimi sunt BelgaeFri Aug 13 1993 12:1413
    I tested it myself.

    The result is that DECmcc fails from that moment.

    If I First install DECnst/OSI V5.1A, and then reinstall DECmcc,
    DECmcc still fails.

    QUESTION:
    When is it foreseen to have a new DECmcc version for DECnet/OSI V5.1A ?

    Regards,
    	DOMINIQUE.

It appears that due to changes in the DNS clerk interface, in fact
DECmcc does not run with DECnet V5.1a.

There is currently no date available for an updated version.
This work is being prioritized together with a number of other
issues (see note 5460 for discussion).

I have a workstation with DECnet/OSI V5.1a for ULTRIX and MCC v1.3

I need to monitor PhaseV events from a DECNIS. Elsewhere in this conference
(4673) it states that DNS must be used to ensure node name matching. But, I
can't do this due to the problems stated in 5374 and .1.

My only option appears to go back to DECnet/OSI v5.1 unless the compatibility
issue has been fixed. But do I introduce other problems going back to v5.1??

Any suggestions?

thanks

Paul.
