5448.0. "Can I stop a dict rebuild and copy a new one?" by KERNEL::SANDYSP () Sat Aug 07 1993 10:34

    Can I safely stop a dictionary rebuild and copy the dictionary and poss
    parse tables from a saveset?

    I issued a rebuild command after successfully deleting sna_node and
    sna_manager classes yesterday at 2pm - the rebuild is still continuing
    and is less than halfway through today at 2pm.

    I need to do an autogen reboot on the machine to install cdd on it.
    I appreciate this would probably corrupt the dictionary, but could I
    get around this by replacing it with a dictionary from a saveset?
    What else would be required - parse tables etc?

    Before you ask, the node I was asked to do a rebuild on is running
    EMS 2.3 on a workstation 3100/GPX - with 32Mb memory - totally unsupported
    and from the speed of dictionary rebuilding is blatantly obvious why.

    The dictionary contains the following classes:

            POLYCENTER Dictionary Administrator Program Version V1.3.0

    DAP> show

       Class (1) : NODE 1
       Class (1) : MCC 7
       Class (1) : DOMAIN 8
       Class (1) : BRIDGE 9
       Class (1) : STATION 11
       Class (1) : NODE4 12
       Class (1) : SAMPLE 15
       Class (1) : TERMINAL_SERVER 17
       Class (1) : SNMP 18
       Class (1) : COLLECTOR 25
       Class (1) : FDDI-STATION 37
       Class (1) : COMMON 52
       Class (1) : CIRCUIT 53
       Class (1) : SNANODE 60
       Class (1) : CONCENTRATOR 330
       Class (1) : SNA_MANAGER 331
       Class (1) : REFERENCE 332
       Class (1) : SCRIPT 666
       Class (1) : GENERAL 16382

    and currently 24 hours after starting the rebuild we are at:

    RODERS::SANDYS 11:08:07 MCC_DAP_M CPU=20:13:29.61 PF=300176412 IO=63322
    MEM=1000
    0
      Processing entity 12 26
      Processing entity 12 44
      Processing entity 12 47
    RODERS::SANDYS 13:26:36 MCC_DAP_M CPU=22:29:21.57 PF=342866667 IO=63462
    MEM=1000

    So - what are the implications of me copying a new dictionary etc in
    if I have to autogen reboot?

    Thanks

5448.1Copying dict files seems okKERNEL::SANDYSPMon Aug 16 1993 06:2011
    For anyone in a similar position in future - I seemed to have
    got away with interrupting the update with ctrl-y and then
    copying the following files from the largest ems saveset (.k):

    MCC_FDICTIONARY.BPT;1
    MCC_FDICTIONARY.DAT;1
    MCC_FDICTIONARY.CTM;1

    Have only tried a few simple commands in fcl but all ok (thus far).
