Can someone tell me if there is a CHIPCOM conference somewhere on the network? Got a customer who has problems with management modules and fiber modules shorting. To clear problem, he's having to pull/reseat the management module. This clears problems and allows communications to continue.. This happens on several (12 or more) CHIPCOM hubs. Calls to CHIPCOM fall on deaf ears, saying "gee we never ran into that before." Oh, DECmcc is in use, but I don't think MCC would cause this problem?! So, a conference on CHIPCOM may help me to uncover a problem.! Thanks for any assistance! Bob G.

Hi Bob, I don't know the existance of a chipcom notesfile, although I would like that one exists. I don't quite understand the problem. >> Got a customer who has problems with management modules and fiber >> modules shorting. What do you mean with shorting? Do you have modules placed in the first or last slots? If yes, what is the type? Can you tell me the contents of all hub's that are giving the problem? -Geert-
5439.2 | Getting hub config. have theory! | BSS::GROVER | The CIRCUIT_MAN | Fri Aug 06 1993 12:33 | 26 |
RE:.1 I am in the process of getting an exact layout of the hubs. But, the problem seems to be... The hubs (and all modules within) all work normally... Then, without warning, the management and fiber modules will loose all lights and hang. This happens to about 12 (or so) hubs throughout the network, at random times.... Here is one theory talked about since I entered .0.... It is thought (I still have to verify with customer) that maybe the management station is set up with "write" access and someone may be making "on the fly" configuration changes, not realizing they may be causing the management and/or fiber module problems.. Again, the above is just a theory (for now).... I will post the hub configuration once I have it..! Thanks for the reply. Bob G.
5439.3 | maximum load reached? | BACHUS::FOLENS | Mon Aug 09 1993 09:37 | 7
This looks like a configuration problem to me. Once you have the configuration you need to check out if the maximum load of the Chipcom hub's is reached. This could lead to such problems as you described. -Geert- |
