5436.0. "cisco mib not seen on some registered interfaces" by GIDDAY::CHONG (Andrew Chong - Sydney CSC ) Thu Aug 05 1993 06:45
A customer has a strange problem with cisco routers .
He has ip addresses on the serial interfaces so he registers each interface
as an snmp entity. For example the serial interface 1 is registered as
cisco_name_S1 . He finds that on some of his registered entities the cisco mib
is missing as seen from the iconic map (i.e. double click on snmp entity icon
and canot see cisco as a child).
He has tried deregister and re-register the entity ,still the same
problem. Furthermore, if he deregister and re-register an entity that has
the cisco mib , it too will not see the mib after registration.
From the forms command line , however, he can show snmp cisco
bla bla bla and cisco attributes will be returned on any registered cisco
interface. The problem only occurs in the iconic map.
The dictionary shows subclass cisco is prescent.
Any ideas ?

Ask the customer to bring up the toolbox window after he has double-
clicked into the global entity. He should now be able to add the
cisco child entity to the map.
This problem has been discussed elsewhere in this conference. The SNMP
AM tries to figure out what mib extensions are supported by the agents.
Due to the way the Cisco agent works, it cannot determine that the
Cisco private mib is supported by the agent. Which is why Cisco does
not show up as one of the child entities. The above work-around should
help you circumvent the problem.
