5424.1 | same problem .... no answer | NGYOSC::HANSEN | | Fri Sep 10 1993 08:32 | 39 |
| Hello,
I have exactly the same problem with a slightly different configuration.
Configuration : - VAX 4000-500 with VMS V5.5-1
- DECnet OSI Wave 2
. DNVOSIECO03010.% .... 2-AUG-1993
_ DECNIS V2.1
. NIS021.% ............ 3-APR-1993
. NISFIX-14-021.%...... 19-AUG-1993
- DECmcc V1.3
Problem :
If the process MCC_DNA5_EVL for logging events from DNA5 to MCC is
started, the following event messages are received. The message
occure every 3 seconds and blows up the OPCOM process.
%%%%%%%%%%% OPCOM 6-SEP-1993 07:47:14.54 %%%%%%%%%%%
Message from user SYSTEM on NGYMCC
%EVD-I-EVENTLOST, event lost, first longword of UID %X482B53A2
%%%%%%%%%%% OPCOM 6-SEP-1993 07:47:14.54 %%%%%%%%%%%
Message from user SYSTEM on NGYMCC
-EVD-E-CMLBUILDFAIL, Event discarded due to CML build failure,
status returned as %X04628158
The event notification of my DECnet IV nodes works, but I can't get a
notification from my DECNIS which is DECnet/OSI.
If I stop the MCC_DNA5_EVL process the error is gone.
I put this note already to the DECNET-OSI_FOR_VMS conference (929), because I
thought that it could be a problem with the CML application. But it is an
unknown problem for the OSI folks.
Any ideas ....
Thank you for help .... Karsten .

5424.2 | problem with DECnet/OSI | TOOK::PURRETTA | | Fri Sep 10 1993 14:06 | 14 |
| I can't see how this could possibly be a problem with the EVL.
It just listens for a connection from the outbound stream and processes
the events sent to it. No magic and no calls/interaction directly
with the EVD or CML which might mess up the building of events.
The error message indicates a problem with DECnet/OSI and I would
strongly pursue it there. Come to think of it, I thought there was
a note in that conference which indicated that they found the problem
a while back. If I have a minute I'll see if I can find it and give
you a pointer.
Out of curiosity who did you talk to over there?

| I knew I chased this monkey a while back. See note 329 by me in the
DECnet/OSI conference. Note 329.8, entered 23-Sep-92 says they found
the problem and a QAR was logged.

5424.4 | workaround | TOOK::PURRETTA | | Fri Sep 10 1993 14:46 | 7 |
| According to one of the notes I read over there, if you set up your
outbound stream filter to the MCC sink to BLOCK CSMACD Unrecognized
Multicast Destination PDU events the problem will go away. Seems like
it's specific to that event. I haven't tried it but if this is causing
severe problems for you it's worth a try.

| John,
thank you for your detailed replies. They did help me to come through
that stuff.
Now the -EVD-E-CMLBUILDFAIL error is gone. Troubleshooting through
Data link layer show two reasons for them :
- UCX caused some CSMACD Unrecognized Multicast Destination PDU events
- a faulty LTM Listener Bridge caused Unrecognized Individual Station PDU
Events to my local node .
But my problem is not fixed completely. The event notification of DECnet IV
nodes through the Relay Logging monitor works, but I can't get a
notification from my DECNIS which is DECnet/OSI.
May be I create another topic for that problem.
Regards Karsten.
