5404.0. "MCC 1.3 target EVENT to I'face?" by CSC32::P_TOMARO () Wed Jul 28 1993 20:27

    Can anyone shed some light on this customer's problem with MCC 1.3
    for Ultrix (Polycenter Framework....)
    He is trying to target an EVENT to the interface icon on a node icon.
    This works with alarms (as noted in a previous entry, it is case
    sensitive.) And it reportedly worked in FT1.3 for this customer but
    SSB release 1.3 won't change the interface Icon color based on an
    EVENT (instead of an alarm).

    to quote the customer:

    What I am trying to do is target the linkup/down event directly to an
    icon
    representing the interface, rather than the box the interface resides
    in.

    For example:

    notify request

    entity=snmp *   event=linkup,linkdown

    target

    entity event managed object target entity
    severity
    snmp * linkup   snmp #1 interface #2    snmp #1 interface #2    MAJOR
    snmp * linkdown snmp #1 interface #2    snmp #1 interface #2    MAJOR

    Under field test, this would result in the interface icon changing
    color.

    (the interfaces were added to the map by looking into the snmp toolbox
    object)

    Vital stats are

    Ultrix 4.3
    Decnet OSI 5.1
    Polycenter (MCC) 1.3

    ****************

    Any help would be greatly appreciated. If I can't find the solution
    soon, I will have to officially escalate the call and wait for the
    process to grind out an answer. 8-(

Supposedly, you can't get there from here. See my note 5193.x.

What I am having to do is open the data file of trap info via an
external procedure (DCL, in my case) and figuring out the ip address and
ifIndex (the interface number). Then, using the collector interface, turn
each particular reference icon red/green/etc.

Good luck.

5404.3Thanks for the pointers.CSC32::P_TOMAROMon Aug 02 1993 15:518
    Thanks for the references.

    The curious thing is that the customer claims that he got this to work
    with the field test version of mcc 1.3 for Ultrix. I guess it wouldn't
    be the first time a customer reported seeing things work that are not
    plugged in. Must be poltergeist. 8-)
