5369.0. "More probs displaying on SUN's.." by PLUNDR::LOWEG (WANTED!! A modern day Robin Hood.) Wed Jul 21 1993 13:06

I have a new problem concerning anomilies with MCC windows being
displayed on SUN workstations. I haven't reproduced it yet, so I
am just enquiring if anybody has experienced this or if they know
	what is causing the problem..

The following sequence of event leads to the problem and error
	message..

	1. Select a node4 icon.
	2. Select operations pull down menu.
	3. Select dlogin.
	4. Login when new decterm appears.
	5. Select options pull down menu on new decterm.
	6. Select window.

On the SUN the window option fill the entire screen and half of the
text is missing from this option.

Where you are firing the displaying the MCC windows from an error
	message is displayed :-

"x toolkit warning: name window_write_forum Class: xmform
bailed out of edge synchronisation after 10,000 iterations,
check for contradictory constraints on the children of this form."

A similar problem, which is probably related, occurs when you
use the notification window and double click on a critical alarm
to get the details. This display fills the whole of the screen.
Then if you use MB3 to show detail approx the last 10% of the
	text will be missing..

	Anybody any ideas ???

PS. Due to the Sun systems I could loan for troubleshooting are
elsewhere in the UK and I am due to go on 2 week leave. I won't
be able to reproduce this till the 9th August. So I agreed to
    	    try my luck here first.

5369.1Ok using XNEWS.PLUNDR::LOWEGWANTED!! A modern day Robin Hood.Thu Aug 12 1993 05:3911

I have managed to attempt to reproduce the problem on a sun system in
    Warrington.
The good news is that it works ok ie. couldn't reproduce the reported
    problem.
The bad news is the sun system I used was running XNEWS whereas the
customer is using an MIT server. Hopefully the customer will accept
that it is a problem with their MIT server and will change to XNEWS
    for the fix.

More bad news is that even though I couldn't reproduce the problem
the customer still can using XNEWS. He is also using the patched
iconic map .exe which was supplied to fix a previous sun problem.

Here is exactly what is going on..

    1. Running Openwindows/Xnews

Log into a node from the map by selecting the operations Dlogin
       option from MCC.
From the resulting decterm select options then window, Openwindows
crashes. On the Ultrix system the following message appears:-

    	X-toolkit Warning
    	Name:window_right_form
        Class:Xmform
Bailed out of edge sync. after 10,000 iterations, check for
contradictory constraints on the children of this form.

NB - If you do this using an MIT server, the session does not crash
but the resulting pop up window fills the whole screen. The error
given at the originating system (ie the ultrix system) gives the
    	same message as above.

    2. Running Openwindows/Xnews..

Double clicking on an alarm notification window, ie expand the
details, causes the window manager to crash. The following message
    	appears on the Ultrix system..

    	X-toolkit warning
    	Name:widget-18-3007-2
    	Class:Xmform
Bailed out of edge sync. after 10,000 iterations, check for
contradictory constraints on the children of this form.

NB - If you do this using an MIT server, the session does not crash
but the resulting pop up window fills the whole screen. The error
given at the originating Ultrix system is the same message as
        above.

    	Anybody any thoughts ???
