5348.0. "Notifications missing from Notification Window!" by USOPS::HARB () Fri Jul 16 1993 13:43

    I seem to be missing some notifications in both the notification and
    map windows.

    Today I noticed that a critical event had not cleared yet. When I
    check the object, the object didn't report any problems, so I expected
    to have received a notification. I scrolled back through some 600
    notifications in the notification window and didn't find it. However,
    I did find that some notifications were missing. The notification
    ID's, which normally increment by 1 at a time, had a few gaps in them.

    I then went to the notification log file and searched for the missing
    notification ID's. And sure enough, there they were. I asked the
    people manning the station if they had intentially deleted any
    notifications, and they said they hadn't.

    This affects both Configuration events and Alarm events.

    This is running on a VAX 9210 with 512 Meg, running VMS V5.5-2.
    This is POLYCENTER Network Manager 400.

    I'm using nested DYNAMIC domains with a single notify request at the
    top domain:

    Notify domain domain.<TOP> collector * .....

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,  George

5348.1window only holds a certain amountCTHQ::WOODCOCKTue Jul 20 1993 14:0612
Hi George,

I think mcc only ..saves.. a certain number of notifications in the window.
The default number may be something like 500. After the 500th notification,
if I remember right, it begins purging as the new notifications come in. It
does it by severity I think, and therefore, the least severe events (oldest)
begin to drop out of the window. This happened to me once and was a real head
scratcher because we had sooo many critical events it deleted all the clear
events so you may be seeing something similar.

best regards,
brad...

The rule is that events that dont change the colour of the map
get thrown out first. Which those are depends on if you have
"Highest" or "Latest" chosen for the notification levels.
