Hi All, Most other networking products/managers have begun to be very open about their plans for their products over the next version or 2. This helps in several ways o provides a view how the products is developing o Provides opportunity for feedback o Whilst not necessarily telling customers, directions to follow can be passed on to the clients. Hooks can be left. I understand MCC has been through a major review, it would be useful if someone from product planning could give a few lines on expected new features of v1.4, 2.0, platform support, direction and planned dates. In the passed, product management have wisely with-held information from notes files because they were aware that field might interpret plans as commitments. I believe with all of the recent changes to product development (cancellations, changes in direction), the field is now mature enough to deal with futures information very discreetly. Whilst there may be the occasional screw-up, it will help many field people. PIDs tend to be vague and provide few estimated delivery dates The new openess with which other networking engineering groups are approaching product development really provides benefits to the people selling and supporting the products.

5324.2 | We need more, now | WELLIN::MCCALLUM | Wed Jul 14 1993 06:03 | 14 | |
This is a start by we in the field need much more than this in order to win business. We also need this in a timely fashion rather than waiting for IMSYM to be re-created in Europe or waiting for 3 days for an answer to mailed questions only later to find you asked the wrong questions. I know there have been hard decisions made in engineering but thats behind us now, we need a good PID covering such things as LAN Traffic monitoring (RMON/LTM), alarm management, alarm correlation, auto-discovery , SNMP V2, distribution ... There are some great things being done (see 5328) - give us the information and let us tell the world - we may be able to win some business. Dave McCallum. |
