5316.0. "Iconic map displaying on SUN's crashing windows." by EBYGUM::LOWEG (You don't want to do it like that!!) Thu Jul 08 1993 14:49

I have a customer who has recently upgraded to MCC V1.3 on his
Ultrix V4.2a system. Because of the upgrade he is now using
	MOTIF for his windowing.

He displays his iconic map on a SUN system, and this is where the
problem seems to lie. When he fires off the mcc window onto the
sun system all is ok. However, when he presses mouse button 3 (MB3)
the SUN's windowing display crashes. MCC remains ok and from the
Ultrix system it looks as though the display is still there, but
with an error message "ERROR - wm_take_focus Atom did not exist".

With the help of a colleague I have reproduced this problem with
an xliddy trace and found that motif uses an atom called
DEC_WM_TAKE_FOCUS. I don't the sun can handle this and is the
reason for the Xnews server crashing.

A trace has been sent to sun by the customer who are looking at
the problem. But, my question is, what does this function do and
is there any workaround to avoid until sun come up with the answer.

Gary,

We are looking at the problem and think that we will be able to provide you
with an executable which uses WM_TAKE_FOCUS, which is more generic.

I will send you mail when we have a new exe.

5316.3Haven't forgotten, just delayed..PLUNDR::LOWEGWANTED!! A modern day Robin Hood.Wed Jul 21 1993 12:4617

I have the .exe thankyou but due to holidays and other commitments it
will be the 9th of August before I get a chance to install and test.

However, the customer has changed from Xnews-server to a MIT server
for SUN's and the old code works with the MIT implementation, so
the problem must only lie with SUN's Xnews-server.

I have still supplied him with the file though, but to test it on the
Xnews-server to prove the fix will have to wait till the 9th of August,
    so watch this space..

Sorry about the delay. I have installed the new .exe and I can no
longer reproduce the problem.. I take it this will be included in
    the next version.

Thankyou very much for your quick response in supplying a fix..
