5307.0. "OSI event processing format?" by DPDMAI::DAVIES (Mark, SCA Area Network Consultant) Tue Jul 06 1993 20:12

I had a customer ask if DECmcc supports/uses the "OSI event
processing format" concerning notification of alarms and events. He
could not remember the details of where he read it, he just wanted
to know if there was such an OSI format and if DECmcc adhered to
it. If so, where can he get the details so they can utilize it in
    their application development.

    Thanks,

    Mark

 re: .0

    Mark,

If your customer is using Ultrix, I think it might be worth for you to
    have a look at TeMIP.

In a nutshell, TeMIP provides functions (and presentation) to handle
OSI alarms and to log OSI alarms and OSI events. In V1.1, TeMIP will
also provides a Trouble Ticketing function, following NMF Omnipoint 1.

For the implementation of our Alarm Handling and Event Logging
functions, we have followed the OSI standards, esp.
	- 10164-4 Alarm reporting function
	- 10164-5 Event report management function
	- 10164-6 Log control function
	- 10165-2 Definition of Management Information

We have defined MSL templates of OSI alarms and OSI events that we
recommand to follow when coding a management module. The Alarms FM
follows these templates and generates since DECmcc V1.2 alarms
    following OSI templates.

If you would like more information, you can have a look at some of
    TeMIP documentation, located on TAEC::TEMIP$PUBLIC:[V11_DOC]
2 manuals might be of particular interest for you :

	    - Introduction (TEMIP_V11_EFT_INTRO.PS)
		General introduction to TeMIP product

	    - Reference Guide (TEMIP_V11_EFT_REF.PS)
Explain how to encode an OSI alarm or event and how to use
the service routines provided by TeMIP

You can also use the TeMIP conference (TAEC::TEMIP) if you have TeMIP
    specific questions.

    Best regards,

    Marc.
