Hi, I don't know if this is the right conference, however, I am trying to co-ordinate a response to some questions for a customer who is working on a strategy to automate their operations. There are 3 questions I have, can you help with a response, or give me a pointer on who I should contact? 1. How does our system management systems database pass information to a 4GL database? (they want to have 1 database for all errors) 2. What modules would we use to manage SNA at the VAX end? 3. Are there any problems working with the new version of netview (2.3) Thanks in advance for any help or pointers. Heather

Hi Heather Some Partial answers: 1. To pass errors to an external 4gl database you would write scripts/command procedures which run when alarms and events are raised to create an entry in a database. These are generally written as part of the implementation phase of a management environment and need sizing but do not take long to write (man days, rather than weeks/months) 2. To link to SNA you need an SNA Gateway, , LU 6.2 Software from Digital and the POLYCENTER SNA Manager software QL-MQXA*-AA. See the POLYCENTER (Octopus) Handbook page 3-20. There is am SPD 43.22. 3. I don't know if it works with Netview 2.3. You could try Dave Poett in SBP, he may know. Rgds, Dave McCallum. | |||||
