I have a customer who is trying to justify using DECmcc over writing his own management code and he would like some idea approximately how many lines of code are in the entire Polycenter 400 product ( including point products ). Does anyone have information about that? Ted.

Actually, it's all just one big "#include" statement... I'll bet a week's salary that you'll NEVER get the answer to this one... /doug

Well, unfortunately I don't know precisely enough to take Doug's salary, but it is on the order of 1.5 or 2 million lines of executable code (not counting comments, include files, or associated scripts). And my rough count a while back didn't include the point products or code developed by other organizations. -- Erik

I think I left off the requisite endearing smiley face on my reply... I really meant to say, "you won't get the 'definitive' answer". I'm sure Erik's ballpark is probably reasonable (after all, he's in a good position to guess). Suffice to say that there's LOTS of code in there -- more than anyone in his/her right mind would ever want to write. [ another ";^)" ] Think all that will scare your customer? /doug P.S. Erik: Notice that I didn't say a week of *my* salary... ;^)

I have a piece of paper hanging in my office that says DECmcc V1.2 2 million lines of code I believe I got this figure from Wally Matthews. |
