The integration topics you describe are outlined (for a subset of
POLYCENTER products) in the "Syzygy Project Post Partum" white paper I
wrote. The paper was written with a rather narrow audience in mind
(NSM) and is certainly not for public consumption. The topic of the
report was not so much "how" to integrate specific products, but "what
can be done" and "what would it look like if we did" and "how much can
you do quickly" and "what's the payback". If you want a copy, send
mail.
*I* believe that the correct model is for Digital applications to ship
whatever scripts, programs, utilities, documentation, duct tape and
bailing wire it takes to integrate the application with the POLYCENTER
Framework (either with the kits or as add-on options). The DECinspect
UNIX ID and System Census groups are the first "system management
application" groups to have done just such a thing with their products
and they should be publicly acknowledged for doing such good jobs!
re: demo
We (NSM Technical Services) *have* actually developed systems demo the
sort of things you're talking about (not all of the products, though)
and 'clone' them for many trade shows, etc.... However, there are no
instructions or other docs for theses systems and you would have to use
an exact duplicate of the systems (i.e. image backup or dump).
In short, we've built systems that *do* include integration of a lot
of DEC products, but we do NOT have a 'canned demo' & script I.e. we
don't have a nice canned turn-key operation & glossy script that
reads:
1. Say this "..."
2. Step back, smile -- point out blah blah about the foo window ...
3. Click on ...
4. Create a terminal window...
5. blah blah blah
You get the picture...
These demo systems can only be distributed by either image backups
(VMS) or level 0 dumps (ULTRIX). It's easier and faster for use to
clone the disks direcly rather than create tapes. If you're
interested, send mail to me at TOOK::MCPHERSON or to my supervisor
Larry Wellington (TOOK::WELLINGTON).
