5178.0. "Upgrade 1.2-1.3 causing register problems" by PLUNDR::LOWEG (You don't want to do it like that!!) Thu Jun 10 1993 13:04

    I eventually talked a customer into upgrading to V1.3 of MCC on his
    Ultrix V4.2 system and he is know reporting the following problem.

    Since upgrade to dec mcc 1.3 he cannot register any more phase 4
    nodes.
    Registering them produces the error "Unable to register name ,required
    namespace directory doesn't exist" They are using dns for the namespace.
    They can sucessfully lookup existing registered nodes and the .node4
    directory exists in the namespace.

    He believes it may be a problem related the the back translation
    directories not being correctly defined in v1.2.

    Anybody have any pointers on where to start fixing/troubleshooting
    this problem...

    Phase4 node registration creates a DNS object (registered name),
    a node4 synonym softlink in .dna_nodesynonym directory, and
    an address backtranslation link in .dna_backtranslation.%x49.*.*
    when MCC_NODE_IDP is defined to be %X49::

    Please show the following environmental variables:
    	MCC_DNS_SELECTION
    	MCC_DNS_ROOT
    	MCC_NODE_IDP

5178.2Only one set up..PLUNDR::LOWEGYou don't want to do it like that!!Fri Jun 11 1993 06:0312

    I have checked with the csutomer and he only has an environmental
    variable for MCC_DNS_SELECTION which is set to DNS..

    I think I understand that MCC_NODE_IDP should be set up as %X49::
    but what should MCC_DNS_ROOT be configured as..

    I opted to use the local namespace when I configured so I can't
    check against my system..

5178.3Conclusion...PLUNDR::LOWEGYou don't want to do it like that!!Mon Jun 21 1993 07:1212

    I thought it would be useful to conclude this saga with the result..

    With the environment variable MCC_NODE_IDP set to his IDP he stopped
    all processes associated with MCC and restarted MCC.

    Bingo it now works ok...

    Thanks for the help..
