5129.0. "MIB Set by SNMP & RBMS??" by TKOV51::AOKI_H (Hiromitsu AOKI, Network Team/SE, Japan DEC) Mon May 31 1993 09:58

<< Questions about DECbridge 520 >>

POLYCENTER Network Manager & SNMP Manager include *SNMP*.
POLYCENTER Network Manager includes *RBMS*, too.

I would like to know the following two questions. It is not easy to find
out the answer, so if you know some crew, please reply.

1. Using SNMP SetRequest, what part of MIB info. is set(changed) ?

2. Is there any difference, in MIB, to be set by SNMP SetRequest
   and RBMS ?
(Which part of MIB is set by SNMP but not be set by RBMS,
    and vice versa ?)

Thank you very much in advance.

5129.1need rbms to set ip addressSUBWAY::AMMUTue Jun 01 1993 14:248
You need RBMS to set the ip address of the bridge. Then you can
register bridge as snmp , and manage everything thats supported by
the mib which is around 100 pages. It is suggested that you use mcc_fcl
for all snmp sets, than relying on iconic map. I have had problems
setting the snmp trap rcvr on iconic map, but worked ok on fcl.

What does 100 pages mean ?

What is mcc_fcl ? From above contents, it looks I have to examine all
MIB info. if they are bossible to be set by mcc. And it looks that there's
*no difference* of MIB info. which are settable between by SNMP and by RBMS.
Is it right ?

I put the following info. about MIB supported by DECbridge 520.

Finally I'd like to emphasize that I'd like to know is which MIB info.
are able to be *set* by SNMP, by RBMS, respectively.

I am interested by the MIB that our FDDI products support.

	The DC 500 supports:
		. MIB II = RFC 1213
		. IETF experimental MIB
			- which RFC ?
			- is it described in the FDDI_EXP_MIBDEF.TXT file ?
. private MIB, described in the DEC_ELAN20_MIBDEF.TXT file ?

	The DB 5XX/6XX supports:
		. MIB II = RFC 1213
		. IETF experimental MIB
			- which RFC ?
			- is it described in the FDDI_EXP_MIBDEF.TXT file ?
. BRIDGE MIB, described in the BRIDGE_STD_MIBDEF.TXT file ?

	Is it :
		* ok ?
		* and full (no other supported MIB) ?

May we use all the extensions simultaneously ?

	Regards

	Bernard THOMAS

    Bernard,

Unless I'm mistaken, the "IETF experimental MIB" that you refer to
is the IETF FDDI SNMP MIB (RFC1285). The latest release of that MIB is
January 1992. It is currently being reworked because of modifications
to management objects in ANSI SMT 7.2. A new RFC should be available
as a draft standard sometime next year (hopefully).
