5118.0. "How to write an AM ?" by MSAM03::MIKEWARREN (Technology Consulting, Malaysia) Wed May 26 1993 09:43

Is there a manual or good notes around on the EASYnet somewhere
on "How to write an Access Module" (or similar) ?

A customer is close to making a decision on a network mngt platform,
and they are deciding between HP's Openview and DECmcc. The main
criteria of decision, we believe, will lie in how easy it will be
to write home grown Access Modules.

The customer has seen the HP Openview's development module, and
would now like to see some sample code / documentation from our
    side.

Actually if possible i'd like to try get the Edu material for one
of the DECmcc classes we have related to Access Module development.

    Thanks, Mike

Offhand, there are:

1. There is a course on AM development that is run on a sporatic basis
Ed Services controls the course, some MCC prople actually teach it.

2. DECmcc Developers Toolkit Reference AA-PD5MC-TE

3. DECmcc Management Module Programming AA-PD5NC-TE

4. DECmcc Systems Reference Manual, Volumes 1 and 2 AA-PE55C-TE

Part numbers, unfortunately, are not much good for me right now.
I need the stuff in less than 12 hours, so I'm really looking
for a EASYnet pointer. Preferably something easy to read, not
too detailed, maybe like a Net U presentation on DECmcc AM development
or something, to give them a feel. I don't necessarily want to throw
    a whole manual at them.

As far as I know, there are no presentations on 'how to write an
MCC management module'

You can find the documentation on line at

        TNPUBS::Public$Disk:[public.nms.decmcc_v1_3]

Look around in there and find the MM Programming Guide. You probably
want to read Chapters 1 and 2 as an overview that doesn't go into too
much detail.

You probably also want to contact Gail (DELNI::) Ferreira, the product
manager for the framwork or Bill (SKIBUM::) Gassman in Marketing. I
believe that they would have presentations on the `10 ways to integrate
with the PNM Framework" (MCC's new name). Just in case you did not
know, your customer has more options than to write a management module.
Some of these options are very simlar to HP's launch mechanism.
