5038.0. "1.2.3 hanging/ manage dir problem" by BLKPUD::MORANT (Weight proportional to height) Wed May 12 1993 11:21
Hi,
I'm a complete novice at MCC, but sadly I still have to support it for
Digital's customers ;-( Please bear with me if I neglect to furnish you with
all the required details of my problem.
My customer has a series of (various) machines running Ultrix 4.2A and 4.3.
The symptons are exhibited (occasionally) on both versions of this OS. He's
running BMS 1.2.3 (SSB) on all machines. He has plenty of swap space, disk
space, CPU power and memory (in total conformance with SPD/SSA/release notes).
Anyway, on occasions, if this customer types:
# manage dir node4 nn.nnn (any number or indeed *)
then the system( appears to hang indefinately. If a crash is forced, then
the current process at the time is (apparently) mcc_fcl_fm. This process seems
to be taking an inordinate amount of CPU time. I've heard mention of QAR 2112
relating to T1.2.7, which seems to be similar. Is it? and is going to 1.3
definately going to cure this problem (the customer would be most upset if he
put in the effort to do many remote upgrades and find that the problem still
occurs).
Can anyone help? (It's very important, btw)
Regards,
Tim Moran (UK CSC)

5038.1 | Upgrade one system? | TOOK::MINTZ | Erik Pavlik Mintz | Wed May 12 1993 17:34 | 7 |
| What about upgrading a single system to V1.3.0, and see if that
fixes the problem before starting other remote upgrades?
As far as I know, we have not had other reports of this problem,
so it would be a shame to spend too much time tracking it down
on the older version.
