5023.0. "Iconic map freezes" by ABACUS::BUKOWSKI () Fri May 07 1993 11:01

    I can get my Iconic map to lock every time I do the following.

    info: MCC host run VMS 5.5-2 on 6420 with 128k MCC v1.2 SSB. I set
    display back to my workstation (VMS 5.5-1 3900 w/MOTIF). When I
    navigate into a big domain (double click), I decide to Iconisize the
    MCC window while I wait, so I can get some other work done. Several
    minutes later I open up the Iconic Map icon, and everything is blank
    except for the message window stating that it is looking into domain x
    and it has the cancel button in it. Even when I try to cancel, nothing
    happens. I have to quit out of the entire MAP interface and restart
    it. BTW: I know it is not a matter of no waiting long enough becuase
    I usually can open my domain within a minute, and I have left the MAP
    in the ICON state for up to 15 minutes.

    What is wrong?

    Can anybody else duplicate this problem?

5023.1SHOW PROC/CONT to see what state you are in...CUJO::HILLDan Hill-Net.Mgt.-Customer ResidentThu May 27 1993 18:4315
    Try doing the following to gather info.

    $ SHOW PROC/CONT/ID=<pid_of_impm_process>

    See what state it is in. There were some strange bugs in this area
    that I recall with EFT1.2 that may have not been completely cleared
    up in V1.2.

    Does this work if you leave the map window up?

    There have also been numerous Motif bug fixes since V5.5-2 was
    released. One was related to a problem that can show itself
    when using applications like MCC that use many windows.

    I wish I could check the process state, but since I have expereinced
    the problem, we have upgraded to v1.3 and we no longer have this
    trouble.

5023.3Also on DECmcc V1.3/ULTRIXKETJE::PACCOGallia divisa est in partes tresThu Jun 03 1993 12:0510
    I also got freezes of the ICMP, while I was working in aliging,
    dragging etc... icons on the window. It was on V1.3/ULTRIX.

    The only way out was "mcc_kill"

    It happened 3 times, but reproducing it systematically was not
    possible.

    	Regards,
    	Dominique.

Dominique,

We have recently identified and fixed a bug in the area of dragging, aligning
which would cause an infinite loop (ie the Iconic Map freezes). The fix has
been made and the fix will be available in the MUP.
