5013.0. "Control W creates new window on V1.3" by HAZARD::BAKER (Paul Baker, UK Product and Technology Group - 844 3311) Thu May 06 1993 09:01

I have found that if CONTROL W is typed when in the IMPM, instead of repainting
the selected window as expected, a new window is created. This new window is in
addition to the existing IMPM, is the default size (as contained in
MCC_RESOURCE.DAT), but has not opened either the current or default domain and
hence is empty.

This is obviously not expected or desirable behaviour and is causing some adverse
customer comments, especially when the maximise button has been used under MOTIF
to fill the screen with the IMPM

The problem has been seen on two systems running VMS V5.5-2, one a VS3100 with
32Mb memory and one a VS4000 model 60 with 80Mb. Both use DNS.

Paul.

Control-W is defined as an accelerator for the "Create Window"
menu item in the File menu. It is listed right there in the
menu next to the menu item. So it isn't a bug in the implementation
but it sounds like it is a usability bug.

One consolation for your customers is that if they
do hit Control-W and accidentally create a window
they don't want they can hit Control-C to close it
since that is the accelerator for the "Close Window"
menu item.
