5012.0. "UDPIP collector sink fills the disk." by STKMCC::LUND (Niklas Lund) Thu May 06 1993 08:59

Hi,

I got a problem with the collection AM. When i turn on the UDPIP sink the
log file starts to get filled with:

>>Error translating MCC event 3, status = 1000, 18-APR-1993 17:24:43.53
18-APR-1993 17:24:43.53, Received COLLECTOR message over UDP/IP

And after some time the avaiable disk space is zero blocks.

This happens at random times and i don't send any events with mcc_evc_send.exe
when it starts to fill up the logfile. The Decnet sink is OK.

How do i troubleshoot this problem ?

Regards, Niklas

5012.1event report incompleteTOOK::JEAN_LEEFri May 28 1993 13:2722
	Niklas,

After some diggings, I found that this error may have occurred
right after the event report was read from the wire. Somehow, the
event report just received has missing field(s) that are required by
Collection AM sink. Consequently, the sink generated an error
message. Let me see if I can reproduce this behavior in my environment.
Please help me with the following questions:

		- which version of MCC did you use?
		- how often did you send the Collector events?
		- did you send event from the same event source?
		- did you use a batch procedure to send events?
If yes, can you send it to me, so we can duplicate the
		  situation?

		Thank you for your info.

		Jean

    	Niklas,

No, I did not forget you. I have spent a lot of time to
try to reproduce this problem over different systems, in vain.

But, the good news is that when I was tracing the code,
I have found some clue that may cause infinit e loop. So, I made
some changes and rebuilt two images mcc_evc_send.exe and
    	mcc_evc_sink.exe. Please copy them from:

    		took::user$216:[jean_lee.public]

mcc_evc_send.exe can be placed in any area you wish.
mcc_evc_sink.exe should be placed in sys$common:[syslib]

Try to see if you can reproduce the same symptom. If yes,
let me know how the sink manage itself.

    		Thank you for your patience.

         	Jean
