5000.0. "Autostart IP Reachability Poller?" by MARVA2::DISNEY (Jim Disney, dtn 341-2867) Tue May 04 1993 17:45

Is it possible to have the IP reachability poller automatically enable at
startup with DECmcc rather than having to manually pull down the application
menu?

Jim,

Yes it is possible. Read the files MCC_IP_POLLER_DISABLE.COM and
MCC_IP_POLLER_ENABLE.COM in mcc_common and you will find out how it is working.

In short words: You must run a dettached process (the poller itself)

RUN/DETACH/PROCESS_NAME=MCC_IP_POLLER/PRIV=SYSPRV SYS$SYSTEM:MCC_IP_POLLER.EXE

The poller looks to the file mcc_specific:mcc_ip_poller_action.dat. In this
file is written witch domains must be polled, the retry, the timeout and the
pollingintervall.
After you started the poller, the datfile will be deleted

But now my question. We tested it and found out, that if you do that and in you
go after into the iconic map, all the IP nodes that are down, you will not see
"red". The same: if you enable polling from iconic map, you will reach all ipdown
notifications. If you now exit iconic map and come in again, the poller is still
runing but you don't receive an other ipdown notification.
Or again in other words, you can not use the ip-poller automatic. You have to go
into the iconic map and wether the poller is still activ or not, you have to say
enable polling, to have an actual view af the network.

5000.2pre-biased map colors; function being addedGOSTE::CALLANDERMon May 24 1993 12:079
this is due to the fact that the events to turn the icons red occurred
prior to the map being started. There is no function in the v1.3
poller to query the poller for the current status so that the map
can be correctly "biased" based on the pollers known state of the
    device.

This will be in the next field test release.

I am intrested in looking into the IP reachability poller. Where do I
    get the documentation on it?

There's a two page spread in the TCP/IP SNMP Access Module Use book.

Didn't find anything obvious in the Alarms/Notif book...

5000.5Automatic IP poller notifications working yet?BWTEAL::W_MCGAWFri Mar 18 1994 13:299
    Hi,

Does the IP poller now function to the point where if it is started
outside of the iconic map it still will notify inside the iconic map?
It was mentioned in .2 that this would be in the next field test
release but no mention was made as to what the current release was.

    Thanks,
    Walt
5000.6works for meCSOADM::ROTHTake my place on this ride just for freeFri Mar 18 1994 15:406
Re: .6

I routinely start the IP poller via a DCL command... it functions/behaves
just as if I had started it from within the MCC pulldown menu item...
